In 2018, the San Patrizio Livorno Festival had its modest debut in the Ex-Cinema Aurora during St Patrick’s weekend.
Since then, it has grown in stature to be a significant event in Italy’s literary calendar. In 2019, the Festival hosted an interview with John Banville, a major figure in European literature, and Marco Vichi, the prizewinning Italian crime writer.
Audiences, both on social media and at the event itself, exceeded all our expectations and, as the Festival’s proud ‘Madrina’, it is a great pleasure for me to continue to be part of this stimulating and inclusive event.
The Festival has grown from the ground up, and the organisers continue to bring Irish culture – in all its manifestations – to a growing Italian audience. This year, the main focus will be on Irish music, accompanied by a fascinating exploration of the role of food in creating a community; of the enchantments of poetry; of philosophy – and much, much more.
